Background
Dr. Derek Shadid graduated Summa Cum Laude from Casady High School in Oklahoma City. A recipient of the Morehead Scholarship, Dr. Derek Shadid attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Eta Sigma honors. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English. After college, he returned to Oklahoma City to attend the University of Oklahoma Medical School. There he graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors ( top 5% of class ).
Dr. Shadid continued his medical training at the prestigious UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. He completed both his General Surgery and Plastic Surgery residency training programs there. UCLA has been honored consistently by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top 5 hospitals nationally. In addition, its plastic surgery program is recognized as one of the premier programs in the country. The faculty is comprised of various world-renowned experts in the fields of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. Dr. Shadid is also board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons (a board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties). In addition, he is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Shadid and his wife Betsy, a board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in child psychiatry, returned to Oklahoma City to be close to their family. The rest is history.
