CHIN SURGERY

Chin surgery, also known as mentoplasty, is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or reduction surgery on the bone. Many times a plastic surgeon may recommend chin surgery to a patient having nose surgery in order to achieve facial proportion, as the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose. Chin surgery helps provide a harmonious balance to your facial features so that you feel better about the way you look.

BENEFITS OF CHIN SURGERY

  • Restore facial harmony

  • Sculpt a beautiful facial profile

  • Balance out a prominent nose

  • Create a refined jawline

CHIN SURGERY Q&A

  • In general, chin implant surgery is an ideal solution for men and women who:

    • Have a weak or receding chin and wish to improve their chin projection and jawline.

    • Want to improve the contour or proportion of their facial structures due to aging.

    • Want to correct facial asymmetry.

  • Chin implant surgery has a very fast recovery time with minimal post-operative bruising. In addition, the procedure has a long safety track record and is associated with very few complications.

EYELID SURGERY

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, removes excess skin from the eyelids. With age, eyelids stretch, and the muscles supporting them weaken. As a result, excess skin and fat can gather above and below your eyelids causing sagging eyebrows, droopy upper lids, and bags under the eyes. This procedure can enhance your appearance and self-confidence by eliminating droopy or sagging eyelids. During your consultation with Dr. Shadid, he will assess which of the four eyelids (top and bottom for both eyes) require the procedure.

CONDITIONS TREATED

  • Baggy or droopy upper eyelids

  • Excess skin of the upper eyelids that partially blocks peripheral vision

  • Excess skin on the lower eyelids

  • Bags under the eyes

EYELID SURGERY Q&A

  • The best candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who are physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in their expectations.

Generally patients for this procedure are 35 years or older. However, if sagging eyelids run in your family, it may be advisable to have eyelid surgery at a younger age.

  • Eyelid surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia. The actual surgery takes one to three hours. The incisions made during the surgery follow the natural lines of your eye.

  • After your surgery, you will feel a tightness in your eyes. An ointment and a bandage will cover your eyes. A cold compress and elevation will help keep the swelling and bruising down. For the first few weeks following your surgery, you may experience excessive tearing, sensitivity to light, and temporary changes in your vision such as blurring or double vision. Dr. Shadid uses dissolvable sutures, which do not need to be removed after surgery. This allows the most comfortable recovery possible.

FACELIFT

The Facelift (rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure used to smooth the loose skin on your face and neck, and to reduce the most apparent signs of aging in the facial area, giving you a more youthful appearance. The procedure involves reducing the creases from the nose and mouth, the slacking jaw line, sagging jowls and fat deposits around the neck by removing excess fat and tightening underlying muscles. The remaining skin is then re-draped on the face and neck, giving you a younger, fresher look.

THE VERTICAL FACELIFT

Dr. Shadid performs the vertical facelift procedure to provide more natural results, less, scarring, and quicker recovery. This surgical method is designed to reduce the visible signs of aging in the lower face, including the jawline and neck. By reducing the fine lines and wrinkles and smoothing and tightening the skin in these areas, it provides a much more youthful appearance.

FACELIFT Q&A

  • The best candidates for a facelift are those who have:

    • Face and neck skin that has begun to sag, but still have skin elasticity and a strong well defined bone structure

    • Lost their well-defined jaw line

    • Deep wrinkles in their cheeks

    • Loose skin, wrinkles or excess fatty tissue in the neck

  • A facelift is generally performed by making an incision around the natural contour of the ear and around the earlobe along your hairline. This helps to keep scarring hidden. Any incision can be easily masked by make-up or hair.

If a neck lift is performed, you may have a small incision under your chin. Dr. Shadid does not use drains, which offers the most comfortable recovery possible.

  • Your bandage will stay in place for 1 week, and you may see some increased swelling in the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery. All stitches are dissolvable and therefore do not need to be removed. Bruising is usually minimal but will disappear in about 2 weeks if present.

FACETITE

FaceTite is a minimally-invasive procedure at Shadid Plastic Surgery in Oklahoma City that uses radio frequency (RF) energy to firm the tissue, tighten the skin and stimulate collagen production on the face and neck. A revolutionary alternative to a traditional face lift, FaceTite is an effective option for patients with facial laxity that are looking for a procedure with minimal downtime and those that aren’t ready for a traditional facelift.

TREATMENT AREAS

  • Saggy jowls

  • Excess skin on the lower face

  • Fine lines and wrinkles on the cheeks

  • Stubborn fat underneath the chin

  • Issues with decreased elastin and collagen production

FACETITE Q&A

  • From beginning to end, a FaceTite procedure takes approximately one hour, and you can return home on the same day as your treatment. FaceTite was developed with numerous safeguards to monitor the treatment of your skin, muscles, and fat, which helps to ensure your safety and achieve excellent results.

  • A thin probe is inserted just beneath the surface of the skin so thermal energy can be administered to the hidden tissues of the face, while an external electrode is placed above the skin to activate the skin-tightening process. Working in unison, the probe and electrode are slowly moved over the skin, melting fat, tightening skin, and stimulating the production of collagen and elastin.

  • About 30% of the final result is seen within the first week after your procedure is performed. Final results will develop over the course of six months to a year after your FaceTite procedure, as your skin tightens, firms, and improves in quality due to the increase in natural elastin and collagen produced within your skin.

  • FaceTite is performed through small access points and does not require large incisions like traditional surgery.

FOREHEAD LIFT

A forehead lift or “browlift” is a procedure that restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes. The procedure corrects drooping brows and improves the horizontal lines and furrows that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired. During the procedure, the muscles and tissues that cause the furrowing or drooping are removed or altered to smooth the forehead, raise the eyebrows and minimize frown lines. Your surgeon may use the conventional surgical method, in which the incision is hidden just behind the hairline; or it may be performed with the use of an endoscope, a viewing instrument that allows the procedure to be performed with minimal incisions. Both techniques yield similar results — smoother forehead skin and a more animated appearance.

A forehead lift is often performed in conjunction with a facelift to provide a smoother overall look to the face. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) may also be performed at the same time as a forehead lift, especially if a patient has significant skin overhang in the upper eyelids. Sometimes, patients who believe they need upper-eyelid surgery find that a forehead lift better meets their surgical goals.

FOREHEAD LIFT Q&A

  • A forehead lift is most commonly performed in the 40-60 age range to minimize the visible effects of aging. However, it can also help people of any age who have developed furrows or frown lines due to stress or muscle activity. Individuals with inherited conditions, such as a low, heavy brow or furrowed lines above the nose can achieve a more alert and refreshed look with this procedure.

  • Patients who are bald, who have a receding hairline, or who have had previous upper-eyelid surgery may still be good candidates for forehead lift. The surgeon will simply alter the incision location or perform a more conservative operation.

  • In preparation for a forehead lift, the hair is tied back with rubber bands in front of and behind the incision area. An incision is usually made across the top of the head, just behind the hairline.

The forehead skin is then gently lifted and portions of facial muscle and excess skin are removed. The incision is then closed with stitches or clips.
